I have another tutorial under textures that shows you<a title=\"Realistic Rock in Photoshop Tutorial\" href=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/tutorials\/rock\/rock.htm\"> how to create this rock surface.<\/a> You can also just download it if you wish.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #566047;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/rock_texture.zip\">Download\u00a0rock texture\u00a0here<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Step 2<\/h3>\n<p style=\"color: #566047;\">Click on the Channels palette and click on each channel until you find the one with the most contrast (dark to light). In this case it is the Red channel.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #566047;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/rock-02.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6550\" src=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/rock-02.jpg\" alt=\"rock-02\" width=\"830\" height=\"374\" srcset=\"https:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/rock-02.jpg 830w, https:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/rock-02-600x270.jpg 600w, https:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/rock-02-300x135.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 830px) 100vw, 830px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Step 3<\/h3>\n<p style=\"color: #566047;\">We need to make a new document out of the channel.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #566047;\">Either right click\/Control+click on the channel area of the channels palette, or click on the top right arrow to open the drop down menu. Choose &#8220;duplicate channel.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #566047;\" align=\"left\">Under destination&gt;document, choose new.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #566047;\" align=\"left\"><a href=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/rock-03.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6551\" src=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/rock-03.jpg\" alt=\"rock-03\" width=\"313\" height=\"141\" srcset=\"https:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/rock-03.jpg 480w, https:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/rock-03-300x135.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 313px) 100vw, 313px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #566047;\" align=\"left\">Click ok<\/p>\n<h3>Step 4<\/h3>\n<p style=\"color: #566047;\">\u00a0You will now have a new document. This will become our displacement map. Apply a 0.7 Gaussian blur (Filter&gt;blur&gt;Gaussian blur) to lower the sharp detail a bit. This will make for a smoother image in the end.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #566047;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/rock-04.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6552\" src=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/rock-04.jpg\" alt=\"rock-04\" width=\"320\" height=\"335\" srcset=\"https:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/rock-04.jpg 320w, https:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/rock-04-286x300.jpg 286w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Step 5<\/h3>\n<p style=\"color: #566047;\">Save the document as a .psd, I called it displacementMap.psd, any name will work, just remember it and the location. I put mine on the desktop.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #566047;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/rock-05.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6553\" src=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/rock-05.jpg\" alt=\"rock-05\" width=\"349\" height=\"239\" srcset=\"https:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/rock-05.jpg 555w, https:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/rock-05-300x205.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 349px) 100vw, 349px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #566047;\" align=\"left\">We have now created our displacement map for use later on.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 6<\/h3>\n<p style=\"color: #566047;\">\u00a0On our original document, click on the &#8220;RGB&#8221; to restore the default channel display.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #566047;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/rock-06.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6554\" src=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/rock-06.jpg\" alt=\"rock-06\" width=\"337\" height=\"282\" srcset=\"https:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/rock-06.jpg 764w, https:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/rock-06-600x503.jpg 600w, https:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/rock-06-300x251.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 337px) 100vw, 337px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Step 7<\/h3>\n<p style=\"color: #566047;\">Open the layers panel and add your artwork or text on a new layer. This is the content that you want to warp. Make sure you have everything you want to warp on one layer. If you have text, rasterize it now.
