INTRODUCTION<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In this tutorial, we will use the powerful tools of Photoshop to create a realistic modern smartphone that you can use in mock-ups of mobile applications.<\/p>\n

Here you can see a preview of the final work.<\/p>\n

1<\/h3>\n

Firstly, you have to create a new Photoshop document (Ctrl + N) \u00a0with size\u00a0 800 x 900 pixels.<\/p>\n

Create the \u201cscreen\u201d of our mobile phone. Choose the Rectangle Marque Tool (M), then go to the Style box and select \u201cFixed Size\u201d. You have to set the size of the screen as 328 x 480 pixels.
\nClick on the canvas to activate the selection, then paint it. We suggest you using the \u201cPaint Bucket Tool\u201d and setting\u00a0 the colour to #343434.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s add some effects through the \u201cLayer Style\u201d function, particularly we will work on \u201cBevel and Emboss\u201d.
\nWe set the values like this:<\/p>\n

Style: Pillow Emboss
\nTechnique: Smooth
\nDepth: 100%
\nDirection: Up
\nSize: 5
\nSoften: 0
\nAngle: 120\u00b0
\nAltitude: 50\u00b0
\nHighlight mode: Linear dodge (Add) (White)
\nOpacity: 10%
\nShadow mode: Multiply (Black)
\nOpacity: 77%<\/p>\n

You will have this result.<\/p>\n

Duplicate the \u201cscreen\u201d\u00a0 layer and scale it down a little bit. The aim is to get an effect similar to this one:<\/p>\n

Every respectable smartphone has a \u201cbase\u201d, so we have to create it. You simply have to choose the Rounded Rectangle Tool (U), and set the \u201cradius\u201d to 10 pixels. Just create a shape that is a bit bigger than the screen in order to get a result similar to the one shown below. We made it with this size: 344 x 588 pixels. \u00a0Make a new layer at the bottom and Fill it with #151515.<\/p>\n

In this step we\u2019re going to create some buttons on the side of the mobile phone. Create a new layer and choose the Rounded Rectangle Tool (U) once again, now draw some small rectangles and fill it with #151515. You can decide how many buttons to add as you wish.<\/p>\n

It is also important to add the \u201cmultimedia\u201d buttons. Let\u2019s see how we can do it.
\nOur smartphone has 4 buttons:<\/p>\n

You can draw the \u201chome button house\u201d using the Pen Tool while it\u2019s better to use the Line Tool for the button at the right.<\/p>\n

The \u201carrow\u201d and the \u201cmagnifying glass\u201d are made with the \u201cCustom Shape Tool\u201d, indeed these shapes are already present in Photoshop.
\nAll the icon are filled with White, #ffffff, and the Opacity is set to 11%.<\/p>\n

NOTE: If you don\u2019t want to draw the house or if you prefer other icons, you can\u00a0 look in the web. There are actually hundreds of them. You can also decide to insert only three buttons, it\u2019s for you to decide.<\/em><\/p>\n

In this step we are going to create the \u201cfront camera\u201d.
\nFirst of all, create a new layer. Then choose the Ellipse Tool (U) and draw a small circle, the color is not important.
\nNow you have to work on the \u201cLayer Style\u201d. Select \u201cGradient Overlay\u201d and set the values like this:<\/p>\n

Blend Mode: Overlay
\nOpacity: 60%
\nGradient: White to Black
\nStyle: Radial
\nAngle: Between 87\u00b0 and 93\u00b0
\nScale: 100%<\/p>\n

You also have to modify some \u201cStroke\u201d values:<\/p>\n

Size: 2\/3
\nPosition: Outside
\nBlend Mode: Multiply
\nOpacity: 64%
\nColor: A dark one<\/p>\n

To finish the camera; Duplicate the previous layer and scale it down.
\nYou just have to change the Opacity: set it to 64%.<\/p>\n

Once again duplicate the layer and make the circle smaller. Set the Opacity to 35%.<\/p>\n

Every smartphone has an audio speaker, so it\u2019s extremely important to create it in the best way possible.
\nIn a new layer, draw a wide Rounded Rectangle using the rounded rectangle tool. We have to make it seem a real item, so we definitely have to add some style in order to get the following result:<\/p>\n

Pick the \u201cInner Shadow\u201d and set the values in this way:<\/p>\n

\nNoise: 0<\/p>\n

Now move to \u201cBevel and Emboss\u201d:<\/p>\n

Finally let\u2019s modify the \u201cGradient Overlay\u201d:<\/p>\n

Blend Mode: Normal

\nGradient: White to Black
\nStyle: Linear
\nAngle: 90\u00b0
\nScale: 100%<\/p>\n

Draw a small circle and color it with #33caf3. Let\u2019s add an \u201cInner Shadow\u201d:<\/p>\n

We also have to set an \u201cOuter Glow\u201d:<\/p>\n

\nNOTE\u00a0: Remember that the color you will use for the \u201cOuter Glow\u201d should be the same you used to fill the circle, in this case #33caf3. Anyway you can use another color!<\/em><\/p>\n

Draw another small circle and place it between the camera and the audio speaker.

This is one of the last steps. We have to create some highlights to make the screen seem more real.
\nJust pick the Gradient Tool and choose a Custom Gradient: you have to create one that alternates light-grey and white. Set the opacity between 55% and 65%. This is the result:<\/p>\n

In a new layer\u00a0 create a triangle using the Pen Tool. Fill it with White (#ffffff) and set the Opacity to 3% or 5%.<\/p>\n

We have now reached the final and simple step. You have to create a selection that is the same of the \u201cbase\u201d, then fill it with any color. It\u2019s not important the one you choose because we will set the \u201cFill\u201d value to 0%.
