There are automated things <a title=\"Upright image correction in Lightroom 5\" href=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/upright-lightroom-tutorial\">like upright in lightroom tutorial here)<\/a>\u00a0| \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/tutorials\/custom-photoshop-brush\/make-custom-brush-in-photoshop.htm\">Upright in Photoshop Tutorial here<\/a> and <a title=\"GoPro Lens Correction on Video in Photoshop tutorial\" href=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/correct-lens-distortion-video-photoshop.htm\">lens profile corrections (more corrections here on this video)<\/a> and then there are things that you can do manually. We will touch on the Auto settings here, but we will concentrate on the manual settings that will work with any image.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #566047;\">Here I have opened an image that was shot with a <a title=\"DJI Phantom 2 Vision Drone Review\" href=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/reviews\/DJI-Phantom-vision-review.htm\">DJI Phantom 2 Vision Quadcopter <\/a>camera. Not only can it remedy the bulging created by a wide-angle lens, and the weird distortion created by taking a photo too close to subject \u2013 such as the bulging nose of a friend \u2013 but it can also straighten images taken at angles and make them appear as if they were shot straight on. To demonstrate, let\u2019s take an image that suffers from many problems, and correct it.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 1<\/h3>\n<p style=\"color: #566047;\">\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/lens-correction-03.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6833\" src=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/lens-correction-03.jpg\" alt=\"lens-correction-03\" width=\"830\" height=\"781\" srcset=\"https:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/lens-correction-03.jpg 830w, https:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/lens-correction-03-600x565.jpg 600w, https:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/lens-correction-03-300x282.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 830px) 100vw, 830px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #566047;\">Open an affected image and choose Filter&gt;Lens Correction and click on the custom tab<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #566047;\">Notice the grid that assists us in lining things up, you can also change the size of the grid with the slider to make it match your photo<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #566047;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/lens-correction-01.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6831\" src=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/lens-correction-01.jpg\" alt=\"lens-correction-01\" width=\"209\" height=\"73\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Step 2<\/h3>\n<p style=\"color: #566047;\">The first job is to straighten the image. It&#8217;s impossible to fix all the other angles if the image is not straight first.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #566047;\">Choose the straighten tool for the left side of the dialogue box \u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6832\" src=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/lens-correction-02.jpg\" alt=\"lens-correction-02\" width=\"35\" height=\"125\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #566047;\">Click-&amp;-drag across the image to define the new horizon, Try to follow a horizontal line in the image if there is one.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #566047;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6834\" style=\"font-family: Bitter, Georgia, serif; font-size: 22px; line-height: 1.3; color: #141412;\" src=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/lens-correction-04.jpg\" alt=\"lens-correction-04\" width=\"830\" height=\"781\" srcset=\"https:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/lens-correction-04.jpg 830w, https:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/lens-correction-04-600x565.jpg 600w, https:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/lens-correction-04-300x282.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 830px) 100vw, 830px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"color: #566047;\">Step 3<\/h3>\n<p style=\"color: #566047;\">The image suffers from keystoning \u2013 it&#8217;s narrower at the bottom than the top \u2013 so we&#8217;ll adjust\u00a0the Vertical Perspective to make the top and bottom the same width.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #566047;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6835\" src=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/lens-correction-05.jpg\" alt=\"lens-correction-05\" width=\"830\" height=\"779\" srcset=\"https:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/lens-correction-05.jpg 830w, https:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/lens-correction-05-600x563.jpg 600w, https:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/lens-correction-05-300x281.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 830px) 100vw, 830px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Adjusting the Horizontal perspective appears to rotate the image through 3D space. What&#8217;s really happening is that we&#8217;re making one side narrower than the other to combat perspective problems. You can also change the Angle to counter a diagonal distortion<\/p>\n<p>Adjust the scale slider to see more of the image if necessary<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #566047;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/lens-correction-06.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6836\" src=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/lens-correction-06.jpg\" alt=\"lens-correction-06\" width=\"830\" height=\"775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/lens-correction-06.jpg 830w, https:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/lens-correction-06-600x560.jpg 600w, https:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/lens-correction-06-300x280.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 830px) 100vw, 830px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Step 4<\/h3>\n<p>Notice how the image appears to bulge. Move the Remove Distortion slider to the left to &#8216;bulge out&#8217; and move to the right to &#8216;pinch in&#8217;. This also works by choosing the Remove Distortion tool, which is the topmost tool icon on the left of the Lens Correction window. Once the tool is selected you can drag in the image, although I find that the sliders give you more control.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/lens-correction-07.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6837\" src=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/lens-correction-07.jpg\" alt=\"lens-correction-07\" width=\"830\" height=\"775\" srcset=\"https:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/lens-correction-07.jpg 830w, https:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/lens-correction-07-600x560.jpg 600w, https:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/lens-correction-07-300x280.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 830px) 100vw, 830px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Step 5<\/h3>\n<p>After adjusting the distortion, you may need to go back and again tweak the perspective. As you can\u00a0see this\u00a0really is a great tool for fixing distorted images.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #566047;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<a style=\"font-family: Bitter, Georgia, serif; font-size: 22px; line-height: 1.3;\" href=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/lens-correction-09.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6839\" src=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/lens-correction-09.jpg\" alt=\"lens-correction-09\" width=\"676\" height=\"1012\" srcset=\"https:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/lens-correction-09.jpg 676w, https:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/lens-correction-09-600x898.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 676px) 100vw, 676px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"color: #566047;\">Extra Credit<\/h3>\n<p>Sometimes when you have been doing heavy lens correction like we have here (or even with the upright adjustment in Camera Raw) you can end up with a skewed effect, almost as if one side has been pushed up and the other side pushed down.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #566047;\"><a style=\"font-family: Bitter, Georgia, serif; font-size: 22px; line-height: 1.3;\" href=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/lens-correction-15.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6840\" src=\"http:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/lens-correction-10.jpg\" alt=\"lens-correction-10\" width=\"448\" height=\"855\" srcset=\"https:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/lens-correction-10.jpg 448w, https:\/\/photoshopcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/lens-correction-10-157x300.jpg 157w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 448px) 100vw, 448px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #566047;\">This can be fixed by choosing Ctrl\/Cmd+T for free transform mode<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #566047;\">Right click and choose Skew.
